Olive Glade Atelier

Acoustic guitar

The acoustic program at Olive Glade Atelier is built for adults who want a responsive instrument under their fingers, whether that means strumming open chords at a kitchen table or developing a steady fingerstyle voice. We teach on well-maintained steel-string and nylon guitars so you feel how proper setup changes left-hand effort and right-hand clarity.

Lessons begin with posture and breathing, because tension steals tone before technique ever does. We introduce alternating bass patterns, travis picking, and simple arpeggios in musical contexts — a verse you know, a folk standard, or a contemporary ballad — rather than abstract exercises that never leave the studio. Capo use, alternate tunings for specific pieces, and basic percussion on the body are covered when they serve the song you are learning.

Rhythm work stays honest: you tap, count, and play along with recordings at tempos that match your current coordination. We write short practice sheets that name exact sections to loop, how many clean repetitions to aim for, and when to stop so fatigue does not encode mistakes. If you are returning after years away, we rebuild calluses gradually and celebrate small wins like a clean F-chord transition or a ringing harmonic.

Students often arrive with a playlist of singer-songwriter favourites or classical pieces heard on streaming services. We transcribe manageable fragments together, discuss how arrangement choices support lyrics, and build a repertoire folder you can grow at your own pace. The studio keeps humidifiers and spare strings so seasonal Vancouver dryness does not interrupt your weekly slot.
